Oomph’s UX Engineer is a key member of the company’s Engineering team with responsibility for theme implementation and UX enhancement activities on the Drupal and WordPress platforms. The UX Engineer reports directly to the company’s Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • 100% commitment to quality code
  • Stay current with new web engineering technologies and platform best practices
  • Work independently and collaboratively to identify and solve technology related problems
  • Make smart recommendations to project teams, relating to site building activities and UX
  • Review wireframes and designs and provide feedback based on target platform and user experience best practices
  • Work with and occasionally produce wireframes, mocks, and rapid prototypes
  • Actively participate in the Code Review process
  • Contribute Engineering related content to Oomph’s blog
  • Contribute to Open Source projects via documentation, patches, issue updates
  • Commitment to deadlines and proactive communication around delays, should they arise

Skills

  • Very strong working knowledge of Drupal and/or WordPress, including aspects of configuration
  • Comprehensive understanding of responsive design techniques
  • Ability to produce cross-browser compatible markup according to approved designs
  • Expert with SASS workflows and frameworks like Bourbon or similar
  • Performance minded approach to theme implementation, including per device considerations
  • Ability to meet accessibility standards on all projects
  • Working knowledge of PHP and Javascript
  • Working knowledge of templating systems like Twig or similar
  • Basic knowledge of MySQL databases
  • Effective with command line tools
  • Working knowledge of front end tools and methods
  • Effective communication — both spoken and written
  • Issue reporting and tracking in JIRA
  • Participate in communication within Basecamp for projects
  • Project commit workflow in Git, and managed deployments/builds with Jenkins
  • Experience optimizing graphics for best balance of quality and file size
  • Experience with SVGs, CSS Animations, and transitions

Requirements

  • Work out of Oomph’s Providence, RI office
  • Occasional travel to client meetings
  • Accurate time tracking for billable and non-billable hours
  • Regular client and team interaction
  • Collaboration with Oomph’s Design and UX department
